The eighth UAE-Iran Joint Consular Committee has begun a series of meetings in Tehran to discuss areas of consular cooperation and ways of promoting them, as well as cooperation in other areas that are of common interest to the countries.
The Assistant Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Dr Tareq Ahmed Al Haidan, who led the UAE delegation to the meetings, conveyed the greetings of Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
He said Sheikh Abdullah gave special attention to the bilateral relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, and to the joint consular committee in particular, and had given directives to make the committee’s meetings successful.
Making note of the historical, religious and geographic relationships between the countries, Dr Al Haidan stressed the need for solving consular matters in promoting further cooperation and development.
In his remarks at the start of the meetings, Hassan Qashqavi, the Iranian deputy foreign minister for parliamentary and Iranian expatriates affairs, described high-level visits as proof of good relations between the countries in various areas.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said trade with Iran reached Dh41 billion during the first half of last year, and there were 31 weekly flights between the two countries this summer.
