Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden said he believes he is on track to win the US election, expressing confidence he would come out ahead in Arizona and several other states in which early results showed a close contest. “Keep the faith, guys – we’re gonna win this,” he told supporters in Wilmington, Delaware, in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Mr Biden spoke as the vote tally in Arizona showed him ahead of Republican President Donald Trump with 52 per cent of almost 80 per cent of ballots counted. He said he believed he would also win the key states of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan. Mr Biden said that, unexpectedly, he was still in the game in Georgia. “We feel good about where we are,” he said. “I’m optimistic.” The race to the White House is a nail-biter and numbers are too close to call in the deciding states to reach the 270 electoral votes. According to Fox News projections, Mr Trump scored a critical win in the battleground state of Florida, while Mr Biden would become the first Democrat to win Arizona since 1996. Mr Trump’s win in Florida highlights gains he has made in the Latino community and Cuban immigrants. But in the key states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia, North Carolina and Nevada, the results were too close to call. The first four of these states faces delays in counting the early votes, which were registered in record numbers in this election and could tilt the result in Mr Biden’s favour. Mr Biden asked Americans to be patient as votes are counted, saying results may not be finalised until Wednesday or later. “It ain’t over until every vote is counted,” he said.
