Residents took to Twitter to share videos and pictures of the inclement weather, which led to cars being stranded as the water level rose. Prince Khalid Al Faisal, governor of Makkah province and advisor to Saudi King Salman, was seen out checking the rain-soaked roads and urban areas. One video showed his convoy passing through a road which resembled a lake from above. Jeddah Education announced on social media ahead of the bad weather that classes would be stopped for the "safety of students" in the region. The wet weather is expected to continue in Jeddah and Makkah through to Thursday, according to the General Authority of Meteorology and Environment Protection. Air traffic was also affected, as Saudi Airlines announced that several flights were delayed this morning due to the rain. "We value our esteemed guests and recognise that due to these weather conditions they might want to change their travel plans or cancel, therefore it was decided to exempt all affected tickets that were issued with confirm bookings that are affected by the weather from all restrictions and penalties," it said in a statement. Weather maps showed the area of rain covering western areas of Saudi, with temperatures peaking at around 25°C and a chance of thunder.
