Police in England broke up a party on a boat at the weekend and told more than 70 people they could be fined for breaking coronavirus lockdown rules. Socialising in large groups is banned and authorities fear that too many people are breaking the rules as efforts to suppress new cases of coronavirus increase. The boat party in Ealing, West London, was organised on social media and the 72 people found by officers on Saturday could face fines of £800 ($1,095) each for breaking regulations. The organiser could be fined £10,000. "This was a blatant breach of the coronavirus rules that are in place to save lives," Detective Chief Inspector Thomas Bowen of Metropolitan Police said. "The Met will continue to shut down and disperse events such as this, which risk spreading a virus that has already claimed the lives of more than 100,000 people in this country."
