COPENHAGEN // The US President Barack Obama says the United States is "ready and eager" to host the 2016 Olympics in his adoptive hometown of Chicago.
Praising the US bid to host the games, Mr Obama told the International Olympic Committee (IOC) it deserves their support.
He said early on Friday that they should choose Chicago for the same reason he picked it 25 years ago - because it's a great and diverse city.
He says there is nothing he would like more than to have the games just a few blocks from his own family's home in Chicago.
The IOC will decide the host city later today. Mr Obama is expected to be flying back to the US when the choice is announced. Chicago is competing against Rio de Janeiro, Madrid and Tokyo.
