Man extradited to UK from India to face triple murder charge

A man has been extradited from India to face a triple murder charge over the deaths of his wife and children in Britain.

Mohammed Abdul Shakur, 45, from Bangladesh, was taken into custody when his plane arrived at London’s Heathrow Airport on Saturday.

His estranged wife Juli Begum, 26, was found dead with her two daughters - Anika Khanum, 5, and Thanha Khanum, 6 - at their home in East Ham, London, in January 2007.

The UK was trying for more than six years to extradite him from India to stand trial for the murders.

The Indian authorities have been working with UK police for the past 12 years.

Mr Shakur made an initial appearance at Barkingside Magistrates Court on Monday to face three charges of murder.

He is scheduled to appear at London’s criminal court on Wednesday.
