About 40 convicted terrorists will be released from French prisons this year and next, said France’s anti-terrorism prosecutor.
Francois Molins said on BFM television on Monday that the re-entry of the unrepentant ones into society poses a “major risk”.
France still faces a significant threat from home-grown supporters of the extremist group, ISIS, he added.

Mr Molins also said that 600 to 700 French extremists are unaccounted for in Iraq and Syria claimed by ISIS, although many have probably been killed. He added that authorities believe some of the organisers of the November 2015 attacks in Paris are among the dead in the Middle East.
Mr Molins said the investigation of the simultaneous attacks at the Bataclan concert hall, Paris cafes and the national stadium that killed 130 people should conclude next year.
