The Zakat Fund has disbursed a bit more than Dh87 million since the start of the year to more than 7,000 recipients.
The Zakat Distribution Committee has held 60 meetings this year with the aim of speeding up disbursement to applicants.
The Fund has introduced a number of IT applications to avoid dual disbursements and ease the distribution process.
Researchers at the Fund verify the entitlement of applicants to Zakat funds by contacting banks and other relevant organisations, said Abdullah bin Aqeedah Al Muhairy, the secretary general of the Fund.
Last year the Fund launched a system allowing recipients to call a free number, 8008444, for simplified directions on opening and following up a file at the Fund. This first-of-a-kind service is accompanied by 56 other electronic services, such as the Mirsal app, which updates applicants on the progress of their file by SMS.
Mr Al Muhairy praised the efforts of the Fund staff and thanked all Zakat contributors to making the Fund a success.
