Half of all motorbike accidents in Abu Dhabi over the last three years involved riders aged between 18 and 30, prompting a new safety warning from police.
Abu Dhabi Police have stepped up awareness campaigns to highlight the dangers of reckless behaviour on the emirate's road, from speeding to ignoring traffic signals.
The renewed effort comes as new figures found that five per cent of all traffic accidents in the capital involved motorbikes from the period of January, 2016 to November 30 of this year.
The force said that the main causes of bike accidents are speeding, sudden lane changes and swerving, jumping red lights, inexperience and entering a main road without checking it is clear.

As part of a winter safety initiative, police urged drivers to take care on the roads and ensure they adhere to traffic regulations.
Police also stressed the importance of promoting safety messages to delivery riders.
Officers have also carried out visits to Al Ain and Al Dhafra to drive home the importance of abiding by the rules of the road and wearing appropriate safety equipment, such as helmets, when travelling.
The youth council at the police's traffic department held a workshop for young people earlier this year to discuss safety concerns.
