Would an increase in the cost of cigarettes reduce the number of young people who smoke?

The head of the Ministry of Health's Tobacco Control Team has proposed raising the price of cigarettes to up to Dh50 a packet in the hope of reducing reduce the number of young people who smoke. Would a price increase actually reduce the number of young smokers?
