A worker cried and begged for forgiveness as he was arrested for molesting a nine-year-old girl who was shopping with her mother, Dubai Criminal Court was told on Monday.
The 30-year-old Bangladeshi admitted touching the girl but told the court he did not mean it.
Records show that on June 10 this year, an Indian mother and her daughter were shopping for clothes at Al Quoz mall when the worker found the girl by herself in a shop.
He allegedly surprised then touched her inappropriately on her chest. The girl screamed for her mother.
"He was asking for forgiveness and begged that I don't call police, he also apologised for what he did but only after I called police," said the mother. She told the security guard to keep hold of the worker until police arrived.
"I found the worker held by the security guard, he was shaking and crying. when I asked him if he did it or not, he admitted but told me that he doesn't know why he did it," said a Sudanese police officer, 52.
He said CCTV cameras showed the defendant as he came from behind the child and molested her twice.
In court he denied a sex assault charge and will face verdict on September 28.

As a result, Mr Raffoul said many companies in the UAE are coming up with benefit package programmes to help working mothers and the career development of women in general.
