Wild animal show takes to stage in Sharjah

SHARJAH // A musical show aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of keeping wild animals at home is being staged in the emirate.

‘Thank you …but leave us’ premiered at the Culture Palace theatre in Sharjah on Wednesday, with actors showing the dangers of raising wild animals outside their natural habitat and without the proper knowledge or experience through songs and sketches.

In November last year, Dr Sheikh Sultan Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, issued an order prohibiting residents from owning dangerous animals, with heavy fines for those who violate the decree.

The Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA), with the assistance of Sharjah police and municipality, seized four wolves found in a home in Al Sabkha on Monday after receiving complaints from residents.

“The musical is an environmental awareness message that portrays how these animals suffer from living outside their habitats and the risk of sudden, fierce attacks,” Hana Al Suwaidi, director of the EPAA.

The show, which is aimed at schoolchildren, will continue until February 12.
