Wife pressured lover into killing husband, Dubai court told

DUBAI // A man bludgeoned his lover’s husband with a brick, tied him up and ran him over with a car before setting him on fire after being pressured by the wife, a court was told.

“Yes, it’s true, but I did it because of her – it’s all because of her nagging,” said the 32-year-old, who holds a Comoros Islands passport.

He appeared in Dubai Criminal Court charged with premeditated murder, drinking alcohol without a licence and having consensual sex.

The wife, 22, who also holds a Comoros Islands passport, denied a charge of aiding and abetting and consensual sex.

“I didn’t kill my man, I didn’t do anything,” she told the court.

The victim’s burning remains were found about midnight on October 14 last year in Al Qusais industrial area by an Indian security guard.

Police identified the body and questioned his wife. She said her husband, another Comoros Islands passport holder, had left on a fishing trip and was not answering her calls.

After further investigations, she admitted to having an affair with her husband’s friend. The lover was then also arrested.

The court was told the pair had been seeing each other for almost two years and conspired to kill the husband so they could be together.

“The lover told us he planned with the wife that she fake a fight with her husband and take him for a drive to calm him down,” a police major said. “Then he would pick the right time to kill him.”

He said the lover tied up his friend, smashed a brick over his head and hit him repeatedly with the car door. He then drove back to the victim’s house and met the wife.

“He told her what he did and that her husband was still alive in the back of the car,” said the major.

They agreed that he should kill the husband. He then ran over the victim before setting his body on fire.

The case was adjourned until March 14 to appoint a lawyer for the wife.
