Waiter jailed for raping drunk woman outside Dubai nightclub

DUBAI // A waiter who raped and robbed a drunk woman after she left a nightclub in Al Barsha has been jailed.

Egyptian M K, 23, was jailed for two years for rape and three months for theft. He was cleared of a charge of molestation.

Prosecutors said that on September 20, the victim A D, from Belarus, was leaving the club at the Palace Hotel at 3am when she was dragged into an alley by M K.

A D told police corporal A A that M K pushed her to the ground.

She said she fought with him as he raped her.

“She said that he then stole Dh1,500 she had on her at the time of the incident, before he threw her bag away and fled,” said A A.

M K was arrested and denied the rape, but confessed to molesting A D.

He said he spotted the cash, snatched it from her bag and then ran away.

Recordings from surveillance cameras outside the nightclub showed a man chasing a woman.

The two went out of the camera’s range for five minutes before the man reappeared on the footage.

“When we arrested him we only found Dh1,000 in his possession,” said arresting officer E A.

M K denied charges of rape, molestation and theft at Dubai Criminal Court.

The Egyptian will be deported after completing his sentence.
