Vice President calls ‘Giving Retreat’ for charity officials

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, has announced a national ‘Giving Retreat‘ for a unified charity strategy.

DUBAI // Up to 100 national, community and humanitarian officials will meet next Wednesday at a “Giving Retreat” called by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai.

The aim is to discuss a unified plan for charity initiatives during 2017, the Year of Giving.

Sheikh Mohammed urged the public to come up with their own ideas on social media using the hashtag #YearOfGiving. This would drive the private sector’s role in social responsibility, and nurture a spirit of volunteering and patriotism for future generations, he said.

“We believe the retreat will further boost the UAE’s position as the region’s leading charitable hub and transform people’s enthusiasm for giving into sustainable institutional work,” Sheikh Mohammed said.

“We also plan to declare a permanent strategic charity framework after the retreat. We aim to translate it into viable action so that 2017 becomes a year for enhancing the values of charity.”
