UMM AL QUWAIN // More than 900 food establishments were fined last year after inspectors found they were breaching health regulations.
In 2015, UAQ Municipality’s public health department carried out 3,460 inspections and found 920 violations, 60 of which were related to food issues.
The department's inspections involved analysing food in laboratories to make sure it was safe for human consumption, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic language sister newspaper of The National.
A municipality spokesman said the majority of violations were for non-renewal of workers’ health cards, unclean premises, staff not wearing uniforms and selling of expired products.
