Lasting peace in the Middle East depends on resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the UAE’s representative to the UN has told the General Assembly.
On Monday night, Lana Zaki Nusseibeh reiterated the message issued by the President, Sheikh Khalifa, on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
Ms Nusseibeh said the UAE was a firm supporter of the state of Palestine, and for the “full restoration of its territories and all of its legitimate rights”, the state news agency Wam reported.
The UAE supports all political efforts made to find a peaceful settlement, particularly those by the US that led to a resumption of peace negotiations between Palestine and Israel, she said.
She hoped Palestine would soon have full membership in the UN.
Ms Nusseibeh urged donors to provide more emergency aid to the Palestinian people and to continue their development assistance in light of the deteriorating economic and social conditions there.
