ABU DHABI // Snow could fall in some areas of the UAE on Friday, as temperatures are expected to drop below zero degrees in high, mountainous areas.
The national weather bureau said that starting on Thursday, temperatures will drop significantly and cloud cover will increase.
Those conditions will continue into the weekend, with a chance of rainfall over coastal areas, islands and northern areas.
Fresh, northwesterly wind will become strong over coastal areas, blowing sand and dust, which could cause low visibility in the Western Region and later spread to other parts of the country.
Wind speeds are expected to return to normal on Saturday night, the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology said.
The centre issued a warning about sailing in the Arabian Gulf and Sea of Oman, because of very rough sea conditions that are expected to last until Saturday night.
The unstable weather conditions are caused by a deep low-pressure system with a cold air mass, the centre said.
