UAE weather: potential rain, strong winds and rough seas this weekend

ABU DHABI // Prayers for rain may be answered on Thursday with forecasters expecting scattered showers along the east coast.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology in Abu Dhabi said overcast skies could lead to rain in the northern and eastern part of the country over the weekend.

Strong winds and rough seas also led forecasters to issue weather warnings.

Winds along the coast could reach speeds of 32 kilometres an hour while gusts as high as 38 kph were expected in mountainous regions.

Conditions in the Arabian Gulf and Sea of Oman Sea will be very rough at times with the latter likely to have waves of up to 1.5 metres.

Temperatures are set to drop to as low 7°C in the mountains, 9°C inland, and 14°C on the coast.

Highs of 27°C, and 28°C can be expected along the coast and inland while in the mountains temperatures will top out at 19°C.

The lowest temperature recorded on Thursday morning was 3.9°C in Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah.

Similar conditions will persist into the weekend.
