Dense fog across the UAE on Monday morning reduced visibility on the roads to less than 100 metres in some parts and prompted warnings from forecasters and police.
The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology said there would be heavy fog formation over coastal and internal areas. In Sweihan, the visibility was reduced to 50 metres.
As a result, slow-moving traffic and several traffic accidents were reported in Dubai.
On Sheikh Zayed Road, Abu Dhabi-bound, an accident was reported involving four cars. A stalled lorry was also causing problems at Umm Ammara, behind Al Mazaya Centre.
Dubai Police used their Twitter account to warn of an accident at the intersection of Al Wasl and Al Safa roads.
In Abu Dhabi, police asked motorists to take extra caution due to the low visibility.
In its daily bulletin, the NCMS said humidity will increase, causing fog to form. On Monday, the humidity level in coastal and internal parts of the country is expected to be between 80 and 95 per cent.
Temperatures could reach up to 41°C in internal and 38°C in coastal parts of the country.
The wind speed could be between 35 to 40 kph during the day. The sea is predicted to be slight to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea.
A spokesman for Etihad Airways said the fog had caused no significant delays to its flights from Abu Dhabi.
Israe Abbas, a spokeswoman for the General Civil Aviation Authority, said that the “GCA has no official statement and announcement regarding any flight delays or anything related to fog situation.”
