UAE weather: Drivers warned as winds set to whip up the sands

National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology has advised motorists that visibility will be poor on UAE roads.

ABU DHABI // Weather forecasters have warned of poor visibility today because of rising sand and dust blowing across the emirates.

A fresh southerly wind, moving at around 30kph, is causing blowing dust and sand over open areas, said Abdulla Ahmed, forecaster for the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS).

Conditions, which are affecting most areas across the UAE, will continue all day but should improve by tonight, Mr Ahmed said.
The centre has advised motorists to be careful, especially on highways as sand and dust particles could cause poor visibility.

According to the national weather bureau, the weather will be hot and hazy throughout the day and the maximum temperature in some internal areas will rise as high as up to 37°C. Wind will be moderate to general, the weather bureau said.

The rise in daytime temperatures will also see relative humidity likely to increase. The sea will be moderate to general.

Temperatures closer to the sea are forecast to be a maximum of 32°C, with a minimum of 11°C in some areas.
Mr Ahmed also said that UAE residents can expect rain on Thursday.
