DUBAI// The future of states hinges on the readiness and ability of their governments to predict challenges and prepare their people for them, said Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai.
A programme conducted by the Prime Minister’s Office and the University of Oxford will look to train Emiratis in scientific approaches to challenges of all kinds that lie ahead for the UAE.
Sheikh Mohammed, attending the first of a five-day workshop on readiness, said: “We issue directives to train and qualify a first batch of 500 Emiratis as forecasters and makers of the future to support future Government efforts.
“In doing so, readiness can be achieved and moving steadily and confidently into the future is possible,” he said.
Sheikh Mohammed said that now is “the best time to shape the future, and the changes surrounding us will not spare those who move sluggishly”.
Emiratis have always been proactive people, he said.
Sheikh Mohammed was joined at the workshop by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and The Future.
The workshop seeks to establish prediction as a pillar for government decision-making and a key factor in planning across departments.
