The UAE has been recognised for its support of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees’s activities and programmes in Iraq.
The Emirates is currently building camps for displaced persons and refugees, said Bruno Geddo, the UNHCR Representative in Iraq.
Mr Geddo said the UN’s relationship with the UAE is strategic, noting that the commission has already worked in partnership with the UAE in various international crises.
He also commended the efforts of the Emirates Red Crescent.
Mr Geddo said that UAE directly and indirectly supported the organisation’s activities by providing aid for the relief of refugees.
Both forms of support are important for providing refugees with a decent livelihood, he added.
