The UAE is committed to a United Nations programme aimed at improving the health and well-being of women and children.
Women and children in difficulty must not be overlooked when it comes to accessing reproductive health care, said Rym Al Falasy, secretary general of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood.
She was speaking at a meeting in Washington for the Every Woman Every Child project’s steering group, of which she is a member, reported Wam, the state news agency.
The UAE aims to improve development and assistance for all women and children, particularly those affected by natural disasters and wars, Ms Al Falasy said. The commitment is driven by the directives of Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation.
Abu Dhabi will host a United Nations anti-bullying committee and the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood will support its initiatives, Ms Al Falasy said.
The Every Woman Every Child project was launched by former UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon in 2010.
It is aimed at integrating efforts among governments, companies and organisations to end “within a generation” preventable deaths of women, children and adolescents.
