The UAE is launching an innovative drive to help empower Afghan female farmers. It will facilitate the sale of organic produce grown by the women, such as fruit, nuts and saffron. Not only will the project bring these products to the market, it will also provide the farmers with a vital source of income. The project is called Mira and is part of the Fatima bint Mohamed bin Zayed Initiative (FBMI). For the past 10 years, the FBMI has worked hard to provide the women of Afghanistan with various sources of income. Founded by the daughter of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, it has created permanent and sustainable differences in the fractured country.
To mark the launch, Mira unveiled a special collection of dried fruit, nuts and saffron for Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr. The FBMI was founded in 2010 to help Afghanistan's women and children. In the years since, it has helped countless people by investing in projects such as health care and education, while also providing jobs. About 70 per cent of its employees are women and widows who work from home. Each employee receives free vocational training, medical care and schooling for their children. More information can be found on Mira's website or by visiting the showroom located in D3 – Dubai Design District.
