UAE judge honoured by Italian president

ABU DHABI // The UAE’s head of international cooperation at the justice ministry has been honoured by the Italian president Sergio Mattarella with the Order of the Star of Italy for playing a leading role in agreements between the two countries such as prisoner transfers.

Judge Abdul Rahman Al Balushi was recognised for his efforts over the past four years in bringing the UAE and Italian justice system closer through several treaties. He is the first UAE judge to receive the honour.

The prisoner transfer treaty, which is still under process, will allow Italians serving jail terms in the UAE to see out their sentences back home and vice versa for Emiratis.

Judge Al Balushi was presented with the award at a ceremony held at the Italian embassy in Abu Dhabi.
