ABU DHABI // A special night is coming soon in which prayer is worth more than 1,000 months at other times of the year, worshippers will be told on Friday.
Laylat Al Qadr (the Night of Decree) falls in the last 10 days of Ramadan, during which all the events of the year are recorded.
So, worshippers will be told to strive in prayer and good deeds to gain merits.
Laylat Al Qadr is the night that the Quran was first revealed to the Prophet Mohammed.
While it is not possible to specify when exactly it will fall, it is likely to be on one of the odd-numbered nights of the last 10 days of Ramadan.
“On this blessed night, doing good and performing Qiyam [night prayer] is better than that of a thousand months. That is, it is better than over 83 years,” the sermon will say.
As the Quran says: “Indeed. We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. On that night is made distinct every precise matter.”
Allah has attributed many merits to this night – worshippers are granted many rewards and prayers made during that night are most likely to be answered.
The Muslim scholar Al Hasan Al Basri said: “That night made distinct every precise matter. In it, Allah the Almighty decrees people’s lots and provisions for the next year.”
It is also believed that in this night all of the events of the year, including births, deaths and rain are recorded with Allah.
“The Night of Decree is a night that is celebrated in the Heavens and on Earth too. In it, the blessings and bounties flow limitlessly,” the sermon will say.
