Scores of Yemenis injured in the conflict in that country arrived in the Indian capital for treatment funded by the UAE’s humanitarian assistance programme. The arrival of the latest group of patients marks a significant expansion in the UAE’s charitable initiatives, by adding a fourth hospital in India to accommodate the injured, state news agency WAM reported. The latest arrivals in New Delhi will go to Fortis Hospital in India’s National Capital Region. Previous patients, which WAM said were victims of the attacks by Houthi militia, have been treated at three centres run by Rockland Hospital, which are subsidiaries of Abu Dhabi’s Burjeel Hospital. The victims were flown in for treatment on Sunday by a UAE Air Force C-17 military transport plane fitted with high-tech medical equipment and carrying doctors to deal with emergencies mid-air. Ambulances and specially-equipped buses transported the injured Yemenis to hospitals. Emirates Red Crescent runs the treatment programme and the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation has borne the cost of transporting casualties and their treatment.
