ABU DHABI // Emiratis in China have been urged to find safe places for shelter as the Chinese mainland braces for Typhoon Nida, the state news agency Wam has reported.
The UAE Consulate in Guangzhou city in southern China is asking UAE citizens there to be cautious and remain vigilant as the typhoon makes landfall.
The consulate is advising citizens through the Tawajdi service to stay in safe places and contact it in case of an emergency by calling 00861881394939.
Hundreds of flights were cancelled, schools and shops shut and the stock market closed for the day in Hong Kong as the storm brought violent winds and torrential showers.
Typhoon Nida was moving northwest across southern China on Tuesday, bringing high winds and heavy rain but no immediate reports of deaths or destruction. The storm made landfall at 3:35am Tuesday near Hong Kong and was expected to churn across the manufacturing center of Guangdong province, gradually weakening as it moved into the neighboring Guangxi region.
