Two tankers suffered extensive damage following a collision off the coast of Fujairah on Sunday night. Liquefied natural gas carrier Aseem collided with Shinyo Ocean, a very large crude carrier, at 12am UAE time. Shinyo Ocean, a Hong Kong-flagged VLCC tanker, was anchored at Fujairah Anchorage at the time of the collision and suffered a huge portside hull-height breach, while a Maltese-flagged LNG tanker, Aseem, suffered severe bow damage and was bound for Qatar. The Aseem had arrived at Fujairah Anchorage from India to undergo bunkering, while the Shinyo Ocean had been anchored at Fujairah since March 16. According to the maritime bulletin website, the Aseem is still at anchor in Fujairah Anchorage, while the other ship has been moved, but it is not clear where to.
