SHARJAH // Two children died in separate accidents after falling from high-rise buildings in Sharjah.

A four-year-old Arab girl died after falling from a tower in Al Majaz on Tuesday, police said.

The girl had been left alone in the flat. She climbed on to a chair close to the window and fell to her death.

Police and emergency teams arrived at the scene at 6am and found the girl dead in front of the building after her mother had returned home to find her missing.

On Sunday, a two-and-a-half-year-old Asian girl fell from a window of a seventh-floor apartment in Al Qasimya. The girl died on impact. Police said the apartment while her daughter was asleep to pick up her son from school.

Police said the child climbed on a cabinet beneath a window and fell to her death.

Col Khalifah Kalindar, director of Sharjah police stations, said five incidents of this kind had been reported in the emirate so far this year.

“Four children died after they fell from windows or balconies ... while another child was left paralysed,” he said.

“We have launched several awareness campaigns to tackle these kinds of incidents [but each] year they still occur.

“We urge parents to secure their balconies and windows, and to remove furniture near them to avoid children climbing on them.”
