Two arrested over burglaries on UAE's east coast

SHARJAH // Two men have been arrested on suspicion of carrying out burglaries at shops on the east coast.

Colonel Abdullah Mubarak Bin Amer, the director of Police Centres at the Northern Emirates, said a man from the Comoros Islands was arrested after a break-in at an electrical shop in Dibba Al Hisn.

Investigations lead police to the suspect, who confessed to carrying out burglaries along with an Emirati.

He also told police the pair planned to raid other shops in Fujairah and Khorfakhan in the coming days.

Using this information, officers were able to arrest the Emirati as he attempted to break into a furniture shop in Khorfakhan on his own.

The two men are currently in police custody and will be referred to the public prosecution.

Col Bin Amer urged shop owners to ensure the security of their businesses and not to keep money in the premises after closing hours.
