A video of a motorist who crashed an SUV into at least six vehicles on a busy motorway was shared by Abu Dhabi Police on Friday as part of a campaign against distracted driving. The CCTV footage released by police showed heavy traffic coming to a standstill on a five-lane motorway. Moments later, a white SUV comes speeding into frame and the driver does not slow quick enough to brake in time. The motorist attempts to swerve to the right but crashes into at least four cars before changing course, turning left, and bursting through bumper-to-bumper traffic. Eventually, the vehicle comes to a stop after crashing into the left roadside barrier and blocking the hard shoulder. The video was shared by police on Facebook as part of a road safety campaign that seeks to remind motorists to keep an eye on the road and avoid using mobile phones while driving. Distracted driving can lead to sudden swerving and may cause accidents, the force said. Abu Dhabi Police urged motorists to follow traffic rules and regulations for their safety and for that of other road users. The penalty for driving while distracted is a Dh800 fine plus four traffic points.
