DUBAI // Commuters heading in and out of the city were faced with heavy congestion on a number of roads on Thursday morning. Motorists travelling on Dubai-Al Ain Road experienced bumper-to-bumper traffic from Dubai Silicon Oasis to Nad Al Sheba 1 as well as on the Ras Al Khor Road merging into the Dubai-Al Ain Road, coming into the city. An accident was reported on the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road around Dubai Silicon Oasis causing backlog next to Liwan before the Dubai-Al Ain Road junction. Another accident was reported on Sheikh Zayed Road Dubai-bound near Al Quoz Industrial Area 3 and Al Safa 2. Traffic stopped entirely on Al Wahda Street leading onto the Dubai - Sharjah Road, south-bound, between the Al Taawun interchange and the exit for Al Wuheida Street. Courtesy Google Maps Financial Centre Road experienced heavy traffic going into the city from the Dubai-Hatta Road exit all the way into the Dubai Mall. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road was also heavily congested Abu Dhabi-bound from Sharjah’s industrial area all the way to Dubai’s Al Rashidiya area, next to Dubai International Airport, as well as Al Wahda Street Dubai-bound from Al Taawun area near the Sharjah Expo Centre to Deira, by Dubai’s airport. Manama Street from Ras Al Khor Industrial Area 3 to the Al Aweer Sewage Plant beyond International City was at a virtual standstill while the Ras Al Khor Road was reportedly heavily congested going into the city from DragonMart to Ras Al Khor Industrial 2, close to the Dubai Creek and Nad Al Hammar. The service road parallel to Sheikh Zayed Road Abu Dhabi-bound going into Dubai Internet City was also congested while the Business Bay exit in the opposite direction on the highway also witnessed heavy traffic. South-bound motorists on Sheikh Zayed Road also experienced some traffic from Dubai Canal around Safa Park to Al Safa Congestion was reported on the Dubai-Hatta Road at the junction between Warsan 3 and Al Warqa 5 while Maliha Road close inbound into Sharjah from the Muwailih Commercial Area to the emirate’s Industrial Area was also bumper-to-bumper. In Abu Dhabi, heavy traffic was reported on Salam Street going into the capital from the Eastern Mangrove Area to Al Rayhan Area near the Abu Dhabi Police College. An accident was reported in the same area on the service road parallel to Salam Street as well as on the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Highway towards the Mina Zayed Port towards the city. cmalek@thenational.ae
