DUBAI // Five new bus stops have been opened on the Sharjah to Dubai route to ease travel for inter-emirate passengers.
The new stops in Sharjah have been introduced on route number 307 and A307 for buses running between the two cities, according to the Roads and Transport Authority.
This will make travel quicker for passengers who will no longer have to head to the main bus stop at Sharjah’s Jubail station, authorities said.
The first of the new points is at King Faisal Road near Jump Sony, the next stops are on Al Wahda Road, opposite City Centre Mall, near the Subway outlet, near Safeer Mall and the last one is located opposite Ansar Mall, said Adel Mohammed Sharkri, director of Planning and Business Development at RTA’s Public Transport Agency.
“The service frequency will be 20 minutes on both lines especially during morning and evening peak times in order to accommodate the largest possible number of inter-city bus riders. The RTA pays considerable attention to providing a flexible public transport network and broadening its coverage to serve riders. The move is also linked to an array of initiatives such as saving power and reducing expenses.”
The agency has announced aims to make the public transport network the main choice of commuters.
The RTA in March had announced a fine of Dh600 would be levied on motorists who entered dedicated bus and taxi lanes from April 1.
The system to catch violators has been implemented initially on a 1km stretch of Naif Road with seven cameras to monitor the lane frequented by 300 RTA public buses daily.
