Sharjah will charge a parking fee on Fridays and official holidays in several areas, the emirate’s municipality said on Saturday. The announcement on Twitter did not specify which areas have been converted to paid parking on all days but said it included "vital areas and streets" across the city. The decision to convert 5,857 spaces into paid parking on all days was taken to ensure that they were available to the public at all times, the municipality said. These paid areas can be identified by a blue tag on the 579 parking machines and information boards. Drivers have been asked to check parking meters to avoid being fined, the municipality said.
