DUBAI // Traffic bosses have been carefully making arrangements for this year’s Eid Al Adha to reduce the likelihood of congestion on the roads.
Extra bus services, as well as signs to direct traffic, will both play a role in the Roads and Transport Authority’s plan to lessen the traffic burden as many UAE residents enjoy the holiday period.
The announcement comes as the authority said about 2.4 million people took taxi journeys in Dubai during the previous Eid.
Ten buses have been deployed to provide a free park-and-ride option to the public between Dubai Mall and World Trade Centre, which will also help cover for any potential shortage of taxis in that area.
In addition, although there are 8,997 taxis in the city, the RTA has also given permission to limo firms to pick up customers from Dubai Mall during Eid, owing to the venue’s status as a key tourist destination during the holidays.
Should the mall receive more customers than it can accommodate in its covered parking areas, overflow parking will be opened in the sandy area behind the World Trade Centre.
In addition, the RTA will install 55 traffic signs around the Burj Khalifa to redirect the flow of cars through Business Bay to reach Sheikh Zayed Road or Al Khail Road.
“To ensure smooth traffic flow during various peak hours, the traffic signs in Financial Centre Street will be monitored and controlled to ensure the highest possible traffic flow,” said Maitha bin Udai, chief executive of the Traffic and Roads Agency at the RTA.
