SHARJAH // Fifteen people died in traffic accidents in the past two weeks.
Most of the crashes occurred on Al Dhaid, Al Mulaiha, and Madam roads, reported Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister paper of The National.
Among the dead were two Emiratis, aged 17 and 18, whose vehicle tipped over in Al Mulaiha Road. The cause of the accident was speeding.
In a separate accident, a 40-year-old Emirati man died and a passenger was left severely injured after their car crashed into the wall of Al Falah Camp.
A fourth UAE national, S M S, 21, died when his vehicle rolled over in Kalba. This accident was also blamed on speed.
Sharjah Police Traffic Patrol Directorate said of the 25 road accidents that took place over the Eid Al Adha holidays, there were five deaths, two serious injuries, and nine people were left with moderate injuries.
Col Abdullah bin Amer, general director of central operations at Sharjah Police, blamed reckless driving, tailgating and speeding for the accidents.
