ABU DHABI // Media professionals from around the Emirates are expected to gather in the capital on Friday for the National Media Council’s Walk to Give event. Saif Ghobash Street will be partially closed for the event, in which media representatives will walk from Zayed Sports City to Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and back. The event starts at 3pm. The community event is part of efforts to support the Year of Giving, launched by the President, Sheikh Khalifa, and will be held in partnership with the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) and Etisalat. Participants can buy coupons worth Dh100, provided by the Emirates Red Crescent, in support of their humanitarian activities. The Year of Giving follows the Year of Reading in 2016, and includes three themes: strengthening social responsibility in the private sector, promoting a spirit of volunteering and strengthening the concept of serving the nation in new generations of Emiratis and expatriates. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, had ordered a framework for the Year of Giving that identifies objectives, drafts federal and local initiatives, unifies forms of volunteer work, and takes steps to strengthen a culture of social responsibility in the public and private sectors to work towards the UAE’s development. newsdesk@thenational.ae
