The first phase of the project will have a 10.6km-long track, starting in Dubai Marina and extending up to the tram depot near Dubai Police Academy.

The network will initially have 11 trams running through 17 stations, with another 14 trams to be added in the second phase.

Each tram will have seven coaches, including a gold suite and a cabin for women and children. Each 44-metre carriage can carry up to 405 passengers.

Sheikh Mohammed toured the tram depot, which includes a maintenance and cleaning centre, an operation control centre to monitor the trams’ movement, plus air-conditioning and electronic systems.
