A convoy of eight cyclists was hit by a car in Abu Dhabi on Friday morning. The group of riders was travelling on the hard shoulder of a motorway on Yas Island when they were struck by the vehicle. It is understood that at least two of the riders were badly hurt and required hospital treatment as a result of the incident. On Sunday, Abu Dhabi Police sent out a safety message to cyclists: "Abiding by safety instructions protects cyclists from accidents. “Abu Dhabi Police urges cyclists to stay on their designated lanes and to abide by road regulations to maintain their safety and the safety of road-users.”
