DUBAI // A lorry on fire near the Jebel Ali Free Zone caused a massive hold-up on Sheikh Zayed Road Abu Dhabi-bound on Thursday afternoon.
Dubai Police said the vehicle’s tyre exploded at about 1.50pm.
“The lorry caught fire because its tyre exploded,” said a police spokesman. “It was carrying cement and ceramics. Civil Defence extinguished the fire immediately. There were no injuries.”
Police used social media website Twitter to caution motorists.
“An accident has been reported on SZR before the 7th bridge towards Abu Dhabi. Please drive carefully and use alternative routes,” police tweeted.
