RAS AL KHAIMAH // An eight-year-old Emirati girl died and her seven-year-old sister was injured in a crash on Monday in Ras Al Khaimah.

The girls were travelling in a vehicle driven by their 32-year-old mother when another Emirati motorist, 33, suddenly entered the main road from a side street without checking whether the road was clear, police said.

The collision caused the mother’s vehicle to veer off the road and collide with another car, driven by a man in his thirties from an Asian country, in the opposite lane, said Brig Hassan Ali, deputy director general of RAK Police central operations.

Brig Ali said the eight-year-old girl died at the scene, while her sister sustained serious injuries. They were taken to hospital and an accident file has been handed to authorities for legal action.

He urged motorists to be cautious and attentive on the road, to follow traffic rules and regulations, and to avoid driving recklessly.
