DUBAI // Taxis in Dubai made 47 million trips last year, the Roads and Transport Authority has announced.
“The Dubai Taxi Corporation carried out about 47 million trips in 2015 at an average of 129,000 trips per day compared with 46 million trips recorded in 2014. Last year the DTC lifted about 94 million riders compared with 92 million riders in 2014,” said Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The DTC beefed up its fleet by adding 420 new vehicles last year; bringing the total number of cars 4,673 including 350 dedicated to Dubai International and Al Maktoum Airports and 113 for VIP services.
The DTC also announced the introduction of a drivers’ incentive programme to reward cabbies who avoid accidents, complaints and traffic offences.
