Dubai commuters make good use of journey planner app

DUBAI // The number of residents using the Journey Planner app (Wojhati) to check metro station locations, bus, metro and tram routes has increased by 47 per cent.

Some 740,000 commuters used the app last year, according to the Roads and Transport that launched the system in 2013. The Wojhati app provides data on arrival time, trip duration, fares, directions to destination and sends alerts in case of delays, said Adel Shakri, director of Planning and Business Development, at RTA’s Public Transport Agency.

An Arabic edition was among the updates made to the Wojhati system. “It has been enhanced with Virtual Reality technology in a real-time environment,” Mr Shakri said. “Users can automatically obtain information, timetables and distance by simply directing the smartphone camera to any direction and from any position.”
