ABU DHABI // A total of 175 abandoned vehicles were issued fines and warnings as part of a three-day campaign improve the city’s appearance.
The municipality urged residents to avoid leaving vehicles in public places for long periods, allowing dust to accumulate.
The campaign is part of an annual inspection programme aimed at keeping the city clean, improving its appearance, improving safety and security, and reducing pollution.
Owners have three days to clean their vehicles after receiving notices from the municipality, then the vehicle is towed to the impounding facility. The rules also apply to trailers and boats.
Offenders face fines of Dh3,000, while the fine for illegal sale of vehicles is Dh1,000. Violators can get a 50 per cent discount, but the fine is doubled for repeat offenders, who must also pay fees for impounded vehicles.
