ABU DHABI // The crew of a UAE military plane that skidded off a runway while carrying relief aid to Afghanistan have returned to work after being given a clean bill of health. The C-130 cargo plane, which was loaded with clothes, medical equipment and Ramadan dates donated by the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA), sustained minor damage in the mishap on Monday.
But Dr Saleh al Taei', the secretary general of the RCA, said neither the pilot nor the three technical staff on board were hurt. "There is no problem with the passengers, it was just a technical problem and everything is OK," he said. "There were no casualties and no damage to the relief." Dr Taei' said the humanitarian aid, the latest in a series of consignments sent by the UAE to Afghanistan since 2003, was later distributed to thousands of people in Kabul. The Government, aid agencies and residents have made significant financial contributions to reconstruction in the war-torn country.
