Transport chiefs are trialling an on-demand bus service in Abu Dhabi's expanding suburbs. The pilot project, Abu Dhabi Link, will start on October 25 in Shahama, Rahba, Bahyah, Samha and parts of Al Sader. People can book the free bus service every day from 6am to 10pm using a smartphone app. The Integrated Transport Centre, which manages the emirate's public transport, said it hoped a significant number of people would use the service. "Abu Dhabi Link is part of ITC’s endeavour to enhance the user experience and expand its services to offer the public a variety of convenient travel options," it said. "A significant number of passengers are expected to use the new service." Passengers can book by using the Abu Dhabi Link app, which is available from the Apple Store and Google Play. Users identify their location and select a time to be picked up or dropped off. The app will inform them when and where to meet the driver with details such as the type of bus and plate number. The bus can also be tracked using the app. The capacity of each bus will be limited to seven passengers to ensure physical distancing. Buses will be sterilised regularly. It was not revealed how many buses would operate or estimated waiting times.
