ABU DHABI // Sixty-six vehicles have been towed away and hundreds of motorists issued warning letters as part of a crackdown on abandoned cars in Mussaffah.
Municipality inspectors fixed 757 warning letters on abandoned cars and impounded 66 after their owners failed to remove them after the legal grace period.
The clampdown is part of a campaign aimed at removing dumped vehicles in Mussaffah, which the municipality said affected the city’s “civilised appearance”.
Owners of 100 vehicles responded to warnings by the municipality and removed their cars.
Inspectors will follow up notices served on abandoned or dirty vehicles and machinery and will impound those whose owners fail to abide with regulations.
Motorists who abandon vehicles can face fines of Dh3,000, according to a 2012 law on maintaining public appearance.
