DUBAI// Fifty-one people were killed on Dubai’s roads in the first four months of the year, a drop of 18 in figures for the same period in 2014.

Dubai Police also said that 52 radars would be installed on the emirate’s main highways to replace the current speed cameras.

Col Saif Al Mazrouei, director of the general department of traffic, said the new devices will be placed along Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road. He added the old monitors will be moved to other roads around the emirate.

Col Al Mazrouei added that 32 additional radars will be installed at busy intersections in the near future, with 18 more designed to detect motorists driving on the hard shoulder to be stationed along Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Ain Road, Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Al Hibab Road.

“No one is exempt from paying traffic fines, even police officers,” he said. “An officers’ fine can be waived if a report or complaint of an incident was made beforehand and he was heading to the scene.”
